Minister of Culture Visits the New Archive of the Lithuanian State
On April 28, 2025, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Šarūnas Birutis, visited the New Archive of the Lithuanian State (LVNA). During the visit, the Minister met with the Chief Archivist of Lithuania, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Inga Zakšauskienė, the Head of LVNA, Danutė Kontrimavičienė, as well as representatives of other state archives.
The visit included a tour of the new LVNA facilities and storage areas. Chief Archivist I. Zakšauskienė expressed her gratitude to the Minister for the initiative launched during his previous term, which made the project a reality and resolved numerous infrastructure challenges within the archive system.
The Minister was introduced to the archive’s activities, visited the exhibition spaces, the reading room, document collections, and the digitization equipment that facilitates archival processes. Among the highlights of the visit was the presentation of key documents of Lithuanian statehood, including the original Act of March 11.
Discussions also focused on the ongoing optimization of the national archives system, with a brief overview of the working group currently active in this field. The meeting further addressed preparedness for potential crisis situations, particularly in relation to the protection and evacuation of documents.
